We expect all students to attain a Level 2 standard (GCSE grade C) in English language and Maths. If a student comes to us with a D grade in either subject, they will be expected to retake their GCSE in that subject; if they have an E grade or lower, we will ask them to take Functional Skills as a stepping stone towards achieving their GCSE.
Everyone knows that good English and Maths results are required for many jobs, courses and further education opportunities; we are committed to supporting every one of our students to achieve grade C or above in English and Maths. This is in line with Government policy and we ask parents and guardians to stand alongside us in ensuring that their young person attends every lesson.
Students are required to bring their GCSE results slip (or Certificates if they have them) when they enrol at the College so we can identify straight away any students who require this support.
Yes, we offer re-sit classes in College for students who achieved a D grade but require some revision to prepare them for a re-sit.
BCoT offers Functional Skills at Levels 1 and 2 in order to help your work towards getting A* to C grades in GCSE English and Maths.
You can discuss these courses with your personal tutor or the Maths or English lecturers. Please bring proof of your grade with you; you will not be accepted without it.
