The following statement applies to ‘home’ status students only, ie those who have been permanently resident in the UK or other members of the European Economic Area for at least 3 years. For 2010/2011 the tuition fee for ‘home’ status students is £1310. Students may apply for financial assistance towards the cost of tuition fees and living expenses. The government offer tuition fee loans, student maintenance loans and HE grants, the amounts you are entitled to are dependant upon a financial assessment of your family or partner’s income. All students should apply to their Local Education Authority as soon as possible and in advance of the academic year. This also applies to current FE students at BCOT. Entry Requirements
Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess one of the following qualifications:
- BTEC National Certificate
- Diploma in Business or other related subject
- 120 UCAS points obtained from A/AS Levels or AVCE (GNVQ Advanced).
Prospective students will be required to attend an interview before enrolment. Mature applicants will be considered with relevant work experience.
Please be aware that home and EC students who are aiming for a qualification at a level that is equivalent to, or lower than one they already hold, will not be fundable by HEFCE and a full-cost fee will be charged. The fee will be £4200, not the amount quoted in the fees section. The only exemptions are for students in receipt of Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), students who have previously attained a Foundation Degree, or students who are enrolling on a Teacher Training course.
Description
This course is designed to enable students to succeed in business. It provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment, or for progression to an under-graduate degree, equipping students with the transferable skills needed to meet the changing circumstances of business practice and environment.

Method of Assessment
Assessment will take place by a variety of methods including case studies, researched assignments, time constrained assessments and presentations using real projects and where possible developing international links. There is no final examination.
Progression
The Higher National Diploma in Business provides a solid foundation for a range of administrative and management careers in business, by developing the student's ability, knowledge and skills across the different parts of the programme, enabling them to make an immediate and effective contribution in employment at supervisory or managerial level. Students can also progress to a degree programme under the Credit Accumulation Transfer System (CATS).
Progression to further study at degree level at university of your choice (depending on the match between units studied on the HND and units offered by the HE Institute). Careers in Finance, Marketing, Personnel and General Management – in all industry sectors. The qualification also ensures professional recognition by professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, AAT, CIM, CIPS, IPD, ILEX, MCI and the ifs School of Finance.
