My professional career has been in the Education Service as a Teacher of Deaf Children, working in Bristol, Staffordshire, London Borough of Hounslow, Edinburgh and finally Hampshire. After retirement I became a Basingstoke & Deane Councillor for 16 years representing the Brookvale Ward in which BCoT is situated. Subsequently from 1999/2000 I became Mayor of the Borough. I have been a Governor at BCoT since 2002 and have served on most Committees, my particular interest being Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding. Being a Governor brings together my two major interests of Education and service to the community.

My working life has been spent in the international banknote industry (print and paper) with experience in most functions as well as at board level. On retirement I formed my own consultancy business. I was a parish councillor (including Chairman) for many years and am now involved in local voluntary work. My commitment to BCoT goes back some 20 years during which time I have been Chair of Governors and sat on many advisory and sub-committees.

I am the Corporate staff elected member for the Board of Corporation and have recently started my second four year term of office. I have worked mainly in the private sector and use the skills gained there to enhance my support role in the college. I strongly believe that everyone should have access to the best education possible and I want to contribute to BCoT becoming the best available in the area.

I was appointed Principal of Basingstoke College of Technology in 2009. I qualified as a teacher at Newcastle University, after gaining a degree in Agriculture and Environmental Science. Education has always been my passion; however, I also loved working in the private sector and became the first graduate management trainee at Marks & Spencer Marble Arch.
I re-entered the education sector some 20 years ago and remained for 15 of those years in an FE environment, focusing particularly on partnership, community, income generation and most recently workforce development. In July 2003 I was appointed to set up Crossways Academy, Lewisham which became a CISCO world reference site for use of ICT in education, as well as providing a template for integrated smart building technology.
