  • School: The Hurst Community College
  • Course: ACA Brickwork

BCoT appealed to me more than other colleges because of the type of courses that it provides as I am good with my hands and the practical side of work, and working outside suits me.

I made quite a few mates at BCoT in the first year and the staff are all nice people who are all really helpful and willing to give you a hand, so I couldn’t really go wrong.

When I left school I wanted to do brickwork as my dad owns his own company and usually there are always brickwork jobs out there. My aim is to eventually become self-employed, but I just want to do anything involved with brickwork really.

When I leave college I aim to go straight into full-time employment and to work my way up from there with the qualifications that I’ve got behind me.

On the brickwork course you learn everything, from building garden walls to more complex structures like arches – it’s the full range. I found the theory hard, but I’ve kept trying to get the qualifications. If you work hard, you will get there.

At BCoT you get a lot more freedom, the chance to work alongside your mates and to meet people in the industry. College allows you to take more responsibility for your life because you want to be here for your future and you are doing what you want to do every day – it’s a good place to learn!”
