Entry Level
Take the opportunity to develop your confidence in literacy and numeracy. You will study for an NOCN Diploma in Personal and Social Development. This will enable you to work at your own pace to follow your own interests and build up achievements throughout the year.

Why did you choose BCoT? “I chose BCoT because my sister came here and enjoyed it.”
Are you pleased with your choice of college and if so why?
“I have grown-up quite a bit, feel much more confident, have made lots of new friends and am really enjoying myself.”
What do you like about the Directions course?
“It is a really fun course. We learn lots of new and different things and I enjoy all of the lessons.
“I like catering and have made savoury items, foreign meals, biscuits and cakes. I also enjoy construction but sometimes find it difficult. We have also had really useful practice interviews to boost our confidence, as well as literacy and numeracy lessons to improve our maths and English skills.”
Is work experience part of the course?
“Yes. My work experience placement at a large supermarket gave me some customer service training and taught me how to deal with difficult customers, product care and health and safety in the work place. The experience made me think about working in retail when I leave BCoT.”
Do you get lots of help with work when you need it?
“Yes we usually have a teaching assistant as well as the lecturer and so there is always help on hand if I need it. The lecturers are really helpful and friendly.”
What are you doing at the end of this year?
“I enjoyed my time on the Directions course so much I am staying on for another year to further improve my skills and get more experience in retail.”
Tutor Comment
“David is the perfect student. He is always on time for lessons, works conscientiously and is aware and helpful to other students. He is also very focused on his future and a career in retail.”
