I went to another college last year, but the academic courses didn’t agree with me, so I took my AS-Level exams and then decided to move on.
I already had an interest in nails and I found that all the equipment in BCoT’s Hair and Beauty department was superior to another vocational college that I’d visited.
During the first six weeks at BCoT we received an introduction to the whole department and got an insight into all the courses that are on offer.
On the course you cover manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, make-up, etc. The teachers are helpful and willing to do one-on-one sessions with students to help them along. I like the staff in the department and they’re all really helpful, even if they don’t teach you, and will always go out of their way.
The Level 2 is a good course and I would definitely recommend it to people. It can be tough when you first start college and meet new people, but everyone’s in the same position and you can end up being close to people who initially you didn’t think you would.
Since being at BCoT I’ve become more confident, something you have to be with the clients as you do have to talk and engage in conversation. As the college is an adult learning area rather than a Sixth Form, everyone is more mature.
I would recommend my course, particularly if you have an interest in nails and make-up. The class sizes aren’t too big, which allows you to develop your skills quickly as you are always doing something!
After I finish the Level 2, I plan to do the Level 3 course before getting a position in a salon to gain experience. That will hopefully lead on to working with other people to build my own business.
