I love cooking and I always have done.

My sister came to BCoT and she had told me good things about the college. I’m normally shy, but I get on really well here. It was quite daunting coming to the college and seeing all the people in the restaurant, but I got used to it the first week and got put straight into it.

We work on a four-week rotation – production, pastries, lunches and dinners. I’ve learned everything from boiling an egg to presenting main dishes to go out. I like being in the production kitchen as I enjoy cooking over being in the restaurant. I made a banoffee pie recently and I was proud of producing that.

I didn’t have a career plan when I came to BCoT, I just wanted to learn how to cook and go from there. My aim now is to complete my Level 3 and hopefully get a job in a hotel.

I’m quite a nervous person which caused me trouble at school. To come here and work in the restaurant gives you a lot of confidence. Coming to BCoT has made me more confident and I’m doing things that I wouldn’t have dreamed of in the past.

The staff here are helpful and friendly and they know what they’re doing, which is the best part. If you enjoy cooking, then this is definitely the course for you.”
