“I chose BCOT as it seemed more professional and less like school than other colleges. I’m so pleased I did! The broad syllabus of the First Diploma has provided the chance to see if a music career is for me and it is.
“The lecturers at BCOT are really friendly and helpful and go out of their way to support students. The facilities are really good with lots of Macs and top quality equipment. The timetable is varied and interesting and I give below details of a typical day:
9.00am – Tutorial: Sometimes we have a lesson with the student activities’ officer who discusses topics that affect our daily lives. This could be anything from local elections to sex education or drugs. Alternatively we get the chance to catch-up on work or review progress with my tutor.
10.00am – Break: A chance to meet up with friends in the Café at college.
11.00am – Music Composition: I am working on recording a cover ‘Leave Me Alone I’m Lonely’ by Pink. I am also recording my own composition which is a kind of rock track.
12.30pm – Lunch: I play pool or table tennis in the lower concourse, go shopping in Festival Place with friends or work on my tracks.
1.30pm – Music Composition: I enjoy this lesson and I have learnt a lot about music techniques and different styles of music.
3.00pm – Break: Grab a quick snack with friends
3.30pm – Music Industry: This is an interesting lesson which has taught me so much about the music industry and even covers management contracts for artists.
5.00pm – End of my day at college “Next year I am joining the National Diploma and after that I hope to go to ACM, Guildford to study a degree in performance or production. I am sure the opportunities provided on the National Diploma will help me choose which path to take!”
