Aurie Woodley
  • Name: Aurie Woodley
  • School: The Clere School and Technology College
  • Course: National Diploma in Travel and Tourism

I decided to come to BCoT because the college offered me the chance to do the National Diploma that other local colleges didn’t. I have also got family that come to the college and they were positive about it.

At the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I thought this was a chance to get good experience in the industry and I’ve always liked travel. Now my aim is to become a holiday rep.

On the course you cover all aspects of Travel and Tourism, from special interest tourism, like wine tasting trips, to tour operations and how they put a package together. At the moment, we are working with children in a holiday setting.

I’ve found that I got on with everyone on my course and I like all the teachers. At the start, it was difficult to get my work up to Merit level, but now I know what I have to do to get the grades.

Coming to a BCoT open evening and a taster day helped me to make my decision over another college. At BCoT you get a lot more freedom and the hours are shorter, but you do have to work that bit harder compared with school.

If you aren’t sure what you want to do, the ND in Travel and Tourism can lead to a lot of different jobs.”
