“Coursework and no examinations, yet still being able to achieve a worthwhile qualification, made me choose this course at BCOT!
“I have always wanted to travel and enjoy working with customers. I like solving problems and making people feel happy, so a career in travel and tourism seems ideal for me.
“In my second year I chose to take the air cabin crew course giving me an additional qualification and something to fall back on should I decide to change direction within the industry.
“The lecturers are fantastic and make learning so much fun. They show students lots of respect and treat them as equals. They deliver the courses in so many ways:
• Visits - I enjoyed the visit to Disneyland, Paris where we learnt from them how to deal appropriately with all sorts of customers.
• Training - We carried out customer service training with Virgin and BA and it was useful to be able to compare the two companies.
• Role play - We use this quite a lot which brings a situation to life and often highlights situations I had never thought of.
• Theory lessons - There are lots of these to reinforce what we have learned.
• Teamwork - Group work has taught me so much about people skills and the importance of teamwork skills – essential for working in the travel and tourism industry.
“I never intended to go to university but have really enjoyed learning at BCOT and thanks to them I have decided to carry on and learn more. I have accepted a place at Southampton Solent University to study BA Tourist Management Cruise Operations. Before that I am gaining more life experiences by working for Camp America.”
