Course Overview

An Advanced Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage is suitable for individuals working in various job roles including Logistics Operatives, or for anyone who is looking to develop their skills in preparation for enhanced career prospects.  Your duties will depend on your employer, but you could:

  • Operate specialist machinery to get things onto – and down from – high storage spaces
  • Improve your spatial awareness, so that you can quickly and efficiently load objects of different shapes and sizes
  • Learn about keeping some goods at low temperatures
  • Manage stock
  • Audit inventory
  • Keep equipment in good working order
  • Process returned goods
  • Manage the receipt, storage and dispatch of goods
  • Maintain the safety of hazardous goods and materials


On your apprenticeship you will learn how to maintain health and safety, and work towards a certificate in logistics and transport.  Learners are allocated a personal assessor who provide personal tutorial support and assessment at prearranged times.

Course Content

The programme requires a selection of competency and knowledge based units

Mandatory units:

Contribute to the provision of customer service in Logistics Operations

Provide leadership for your team in Logistics Operations

Supervise the receipt, storage and dispatch of goods

Take responsibility for health, safety and security in your team

There is a wide range of optional units, allowing the learner to tailor the qualification to their job role, these include a range of competency and knowledge based units.

Moving and/or handling goods in Logistics Operations

Process returned goods in Logistics Operations

Sort goods and materials for recycling or disposal in Logistics Operations

Check stock levels and stock records

Maintain the safety and security of hazardous goods and materials in Logistics Operations

Allocate and check work in your team in Logistics Operations

Inducting new colleagues in Logistics Operations

Manage your own resources and professional development in Logistics Operations

Recruit, select and keep colleagues in Logistics Operations

Build and manage teams in Logistics Operations

Schedule logistics operations to meet customer requirements

Arrange the transportation of goods using multiple transport modes

Organise the preparation of documents for the transportation of goods

Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements in logistics operations

To complete the apprenticeship, the learner must also complete:

  • Functional skills for English, Maths and ICT at Level 2

  • Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS)

  • Employment rights and responsibilities (ERR)


Entry Requirement

Combined (competence and knowledge) qualification is a work-based qualification that combines competence and technical knowledge to give learners the practical competencies, technical skills and sector-related knowledge they need to be able to carry out a job effectively. Candidates will complete an initial assessment to establish suitability, as this is a work orientated qualification, for learners who are employed within the business administration sector such as Personal Assistant, Office Executive, or Office Supervisor they may already be employed in a cross-sector role of function that involves responsibility for carrying out and managing business administrative operations and functions.

Assessment

This programme is delivered through a range of assessment methods including observations, discussions, case studies, knowledge questions and witness testimonies. The functional skills exams are online assessments, delivered in the work place. The principles units, will be taught in the classroom, again there are options for this, not meet employer and learner needs.
