Course Overview

This programme is suitable for employees carrying out the following tasks in their day-to-day duties: Working on a construction site to given specifications; setting out basic structures; building brick and block walling; laying domestic drainage; place and finish concrete render surfaces.

Course Length: 24 months

Course Location: Workplace plus 1 day a week at college

Course Fee: if applicable

Start Date: January 2016

 

 

 

Course Content

The programme covers a range of practical skills and underpinning knowledge and includes the following three components:

1. Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction)

Mandatory Units:

  • Conforming to general safety in the workplace
  • Conforming to efficient working practices in the workplace
  • Moving and handling resources in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry structures in the workplace
  • Setting out masonry structures in the workplace

Optional Units: (Choose 1)

  • Erecting masonry cladding in the workplace
  • Laying domestic drainage in the workplace

Further optional units are available if there is an issue with achieving either of the above.

2. Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)

3. Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Entry Requirement

This Apprenticeship programme is suitable for new and existing employees working in a brickwork (trowel occupations) environment. Candidates must be aged 16 or over and hold 4 GCSEs at grade D / 3 or above including English and Maths.

Assessment

Regular monitoring and assessment in both the workplace and at college. Written exams alongside each unit. NVQ work is assessed on an on-going basis through documented evidence of site activity.

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Brickwork and Trowel Operations.
