Course Overview

Focussing on the major disciplines within engineering, the learner will gain the knowledge and hand skills needed to develop or build on a successful career in engineering and advanced manufacturing. They are also vital components of an Intermediate and Advanced Engineering apprenticeship.

This level is ideal if you're a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience, or you require some engineering skills in your role. You will develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies.

This course can help you to progress in a wide range of engineering roles including:

  • Engineering operative

  • Engineering maintenance technician

    Mechanical engineering technician

    Toolmaker/machine setter



Course Content

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

    Working in engineering.

    Principles of Engineering technology

    Principles of manufacturing technology.

    Milling, Turning, Fabrication and Welding. For the Mechanical group (A)

    Electrical and electronics, electrical systems, Wiring and testing, fault finding. For the Electrical/Electronics group (B)

Entry Requirement

Basic education.

Assessment

During the course learners will do a series of practical based activities and create a portfolio of evidence, they will be observed and assessed throughout the year.

The course is continuously assessed by assignments and the generation of a portfolio of evidence.

This course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course or employment, including an Apprenticeship.
