This apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge needed to support doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients.
Clinical healthcare support workers work in a variety of healthcare settings, depending upon their role, including:
- a specific hospital department (e.g. stroke care, gastroenterology or oncology)
- a community clinic or health centre
- patients homes
- care homes
- a GP clinic
As an Advanced Apprentice, you should expect to have additional responsibilities such as supervising junior teams members, taking physiological measurements and carrying out more complex clinical procedures (eg wound care).
Level 3 is ideal if you are working in healthcare and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring that work meets the required standard.
Through a variety of mandatory and optional units, we can tailor your qualifications to suit your particular job role. You will work towards both theory and practical qualifications, to help you build both your knowledge and competence in carrying out your job. The majority of the qualification is completed in your workplace, supported by regular visits from your Assessor.

You should have - or be expected to achieve at least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, or the equivalent. These should include English language, maths, IT and a science subject.

Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.
Successful completion of this Advanced Apprenticeship would allow you to progress on to further studies in a related area at Level 4 (eg. HNC).
