Course Overview

Course Content

The course will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Developing effective communication
  • Equality, diversity and rights
  • Health, safety and security
  • Development through life stages 
  • Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology
  • Personal and professional development
  • Sociological perspectives 
  • Psychological perspectives

 

Students will be expected to attend and complete block placements in an area of Health and Social Care.

Entry Requirement

5 GCSEs grade A*- C including English, Maths and preferably Science or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care at merit level or above with the completion of functional skills. 

It is a requirement of the course for all learners to have a successful DBS check to enable them to undertake the work placement.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local business wherever possible.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised route into Higher Education.  Students may progress to a Higher National Diploma or Degree course.  Employment opportunities range from Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Social work, Psychology, Sociology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing Degrees and Diploma in Nurse Training and Midwifery.

Please note, students will need GCSE grade Cs (minimum) in Science, English and Mathematics if they are to gain entry into Nursing and similar degree courses.
