This course is aimed at developing existing qualifications, skills and knowledge in health and social care practice and will benefit those who may want to progress onto a degree level course in health and social care. The course is taught across two years-a first year HNC at Level 4, followed by the potential for progression on the second year Level 5 HND.
This course includes the following topics:
Communicating in Health and Social Care Organisations- awareness of different forms of communication used in health and social care settings and its importance for effective service delivery.
Principles of Health and Social Care Practice- values, theories and policies underpinning health and social care practice and the mechanisms that exist to promote good practice.
Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace- own responsibilities in ensuring the health and safety of the health and social care workplace and the people within it.
Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care- apply understanding and skills to own health and social care setting.
Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care- understanding the importance of working positively in partnership with others in health and social care.
Managing Human Resources in Health and Social Care-the processes involved in the recruitment, management and development of people in the health and social care workplace
Managing Financial Resources in Health and Social Care- understanding of how to control their expenditure against fixed budgets.
Safeguarding in Health and Social Care - understand the factors of abuse, and study the working practices and strategies to prevent and reduce its occurrence.
Influences on Health and Social Care Organisations- how the external environment, organisational structure and function impact on health and social care service delivery and the role that leadership plays in service provision.
Must be aged 18 or over
Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification and/or
Relevant work experience
Successful interview with course leader
GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above
For international students there is an ESOL requirement/IELTS score of 6 (minimum of 5.5 across every element).
You will be assessed through written reports, creative projects, essays, presentations, research projects and the observation of work based scenarios.
Once you have completed this course you can move directly into employment or progress onto the Level 5 HND programme. On completion of the two years, you will be sufficiently qualified to pursue or maintain management role positions and may wish to apply for further training to degree level at a university offering a compatible course.
