Course Overview

This qualification aims to make you an informed and prepared potential recruit for one of our many uniformed and public service organisations. It will prepare you to make a recruitment application or provide a basis if you want to go on and study at a higher level, or towards the entry qualification of a specific service. It will provide you with an insight into the practical qualities you will require, not only for uniformed services, but also for employment in general.

Course Content

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

Uniformed Public Services Employment

Public Service Skills

Career Planning for the Public Services

Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services (this will include a one week residential visit to an appropriate outdoor activity centre)

Citizenship, the Individual and Society

Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services

Students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of public services and will also gain knowledge of the industry from a wide range of speakers.

Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.

Entry Requirement

You should have 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and maths.


The course is continuously assessed with assignments, projects and case studies. You will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on your own and in groups, using practical activities and presentations.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised route into a Level 3 Extended Diploma course. Students should aim for a merit or distinction grade at the end of the course to ensure progression.
