Coronavirus Information

2 November 2020
To Parents, Guardians and Students (studying on-site)
Following the Government’s announcement on 31 October regarding a new national lockdown, I am writing to advise you of changes the college will be making to the delivery of courses in order to reduce the amount of time students need to be on-site at college up to Christmas.

As I’m sure you are aware, the Government has said that it expects schools and colleges to remain open and for education to continue throughout this period and I can confirm that BCoT will be remaining open.  What we are proposing to do is to move to a mix of delivery, some will be on-site at college and some by online delivery using Google Meet.

This new delivery model will commence shortly and you will be advised of any changes to timetables before the change is made.  These arrangements will run to the end of the Autumn term (17 December 2020).

Broadly the intention is as follows:

For full-time courses

All full-time students will come into college for at least one day a week where the focus will be on practical activities that cannot be undertaken online, and for personal development and support sessions with students who need support during this period.  The rest of the course will be delivered each week online in accordance with the timetable that students will be issued.

In this way, we will see every full-time student each week.  It is important for us to keep in touch with the students to ensure they keep up-to-date with their work and we are able to discuss any issues students may have in-person.

For apprenticeships (day release)

Delivery will vary across the different programmes we run.  For day release apprentices who usually attend college one day a week, where possible lessons will alternate each week between on-site and online.  For some programmes however, delivery will have to remain fully on-site.

For part-time courses (day and evening classes)

A decision will be made this week on a course-by-course basis about how the delivery will continue through to Christmas.  All courses will continue and students will be notified of any changes to delivery.  Some courses may be able to move to fully online, for others a mix of delivery may be possible and for a small number of courses teaching will continue on-site.
