Coronavirus Information

Update: 1 February 2021

You have probably heard that the Government have stated that schools and colleges will not be re-opening until 8 March 2021 at the earliest. We will be given two weeks’ notice to re-open and as soon as we have more information we will contact you.

For the students and staff that are currently coming into BCoT, we have started the lateral flow testing and the system is working well. Further details of the testing requirements for all students will be provided once the return date has been confirmed. The consent form for the COVID-19 test for students aged 16 and over is on the Dashboard and we will require any student who is taking the test to complete this.

We have recently published our Remote Education Offer to ensure that all our students can participate in a full programme of learning this academic year. It is our intention to take all steps possible to keep the College open, whilst having robust contingency plans to support our students and ensure minimal disruption to their learning, should students need to self-isolate or the College is forced to close as result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This webpage is updated with any new information that becomes available. If you have any questions or require any support, please contact Alexis Smith, Assistant Principal of Foundation Learning and Student Voice, by email at alexis.smith@bcot.ac.uk

Update: 4 January 2021

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on 4 January, the College will close to most students except children of key workers and those considered vulnerable from Tuesday 5 January. All other face-to-face provision will be stopped – this includes evening classes.

We will continue to deliver all classes (full time, part time and apprenticeships) online and the Google links to access the lessons have been added to the timetables. We expect to continue delivering online lessons until February half term. We will keep the situation under review and will update the website if there are any changes.

We will be maintaining timetabled activity though the use of Google classroom.  Students should log onto the Dashboard and use the link in your timetabled session to join the lesson remotely – your remote attendance will be recorded on the register.  If you do not join the remote lesson, you will be marked as absent.  Some exams are continuing and students due to take exams have been notified directly; please talk to your tutor if you have any concerns.

If you require any equipment to enable you to work at home, or would like information about support for key worker children or vulnerable students, please contact Alexis Smith, Assistant Principal of Foundation Learning and Student Voice, by email at alexis.smith@bcot.ac.uk

Examinations
The DfE guidance is that all external examinations should continue as planned.

All planned examinations will continue from 6 January onwards and students due to take exams have been notified directly; please only visit the College at the communicated date and time. If these examinations are cancelled, you will be contacted directly. Please talk to your RAP tutor if you have any concerns.

As you may have heard, the Government have confirmed that GCSE and A level exams will not go ahead as planned in the summer.  The latest advice is that the government will be working with Ofqual to put in place alternative arrangements that will allow students to progress fairly. It is unclear what this means so it is vitally important that students continue to engage in learning as teachers will need to ensure there is enough assessment data to ensure a fair and accurate judgement can be made and this will include participation in lessons and course work that is submitted over the next 6 weeks. We will update you on the arrangements as soon as further guidance is received.

Reporting an absence or self-isolating
If you have recently had a COVID-19 test and are awaiting the results, you must not attend college until you have received a negative result. For self-isolation reporting, please email covid@bcot.ac.uk as soon as possible.

To report a student absence, please call 01256 306321. If the student is 16-18, we ask the next-of-kin to phone in with the student's full name, student number and course they are studying.
