BCoT shortlisted for local business award

BCoT nominated for ‘Excellence in Digital Technology Award’ at 2019 Inspire Business Awards.

Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) has been named as a finalist for the 2019 Inspire Business Awards, in recognition of its use of innovative digital technology in teaching and learning.

One of three finalists for the ‘Excellence in Digital Technology Award’, BCoT’s entry highlights its ability to push the boundaries of innovation, having adopted the use of a range of digital tools including Google Classroom, 360 videos and Virtual and Augmented Reality.

BCoT has also introduced a high-quality blended learning programme in the classroom as part of student timetables, which combines face-to-face teaching with online technology and applications.

Organised by Destination Basingstoke, the Inspire Business Awards celebrate the success of local businesses in the north Hampshire region, culminating in a glamorous and inspirational awards evening.

Anthony Bravo, Principal of BCoT, said: “I am delighted that the college has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Digital Technology Award in recognition of our digital work. The pace of change in communications technology today is incredible. At BCoT, we have already found that embracing these technologies has many benefits – from widening participation and engagement with all learners to giving tutors additional means to monitor a student’s progress.”

He continued: “As a college that focuses on the development of advanced technical skills – we are training the entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers of the future in a world where technology underpins all industries. Our students leave BCoT prepared for university and employment with technology skills that give them a real head start in the world.”

The nomination follows a number of recent successes for BCoT for its use of digital innovation, having won the 2018 Tes FE award for ‘Outstanding use of Technology’ and being named as one of only three colleges nationally to feature in the Edtech50 in the same year. BCoT also won three awards, including the ‘College of the Year Award’, at the 2019 Edufuturists Award.

Winners will be announced at the 2019 Inspire Business Awards to be held on Thursday 21 November 2019 at the Hampshire Court Hotel in Basingstoke.
