A former Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) student recently returned to the college to work with Hospitality and Catering students and tell them all about his journey from student to qualified professional chef.
Jordan Turner, a Chef de Partie at Oakley Hall Hotel, visited the college alongside Head Chef, Seb Smith, for a special guest chef evening, hosted at The Restaurant at BCoT on Wednesday 23 October.
After joining the college from Court Moor School in September 2014, Jordan spent a total of three years studying hospitality and catering at BCoT, before completing his Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery in June 2017.
Since completing his studies, Jordan secured a position as a Commis Chef at The Aviator Hotel in Farnborough, before joining Oakley Hall Hotel as a Chef de Partie in 2018.
Returning to the college, Jordan said “Studying at BCoT really got me used to being in a professional kitchen environment. The course really prepared me for working in the industry and it was through completing work experience with The Aviator that I secured my first job after finishing at BCoT.”
Anthony Bravo, Principal of BCoT, said: “97.2% of our students progress to university, employment or further study and Jordan is a fantastic example of what we as a college strive to achieve. We work with local and national employers to ensure our students learn the skills needed in their industry and I am so proud to see the study programme, and work experience that Jordan completed with us has led him into a successful career in his chosen industry.”
The Guest Chef Evening saw guests of the restaurant sample a taster menu courtesy of Oakley Hall Hotel, with BCoT’s current students getting the chance to help with preparing, cooking and serving the food.
