During this two-year course you will explore a range of art and design techniques as part of a number of core units and then choose to specialise as the course progresses towards more specialist art and design based disciplines.
During Year 1 learners will be introduced to a wide range of techniques and learn new processes, including observational drawing, black & white darkroom photography, film processing and printing, printmaking, ceramics, screen-printing, CAD & digital exploration, 3D processes (wood, metals, plastics and glass, mould making and laser cutting). Additional workshops will take place throughout the year in specialist areas.
You will need five GCSEs A*/9 to C/4 including English and maths, or a relevant Level 2 qualification. You must also have a good portfolio of work to show at the interview.
Continuous assessment takes place throughout the course through assignments based upon current art and design practice. All work is produced through coursework and projects and there are no exams.
The course uses practical activities to assess coursework, including peer review, self assessment, presentations, practical activities and exhibitions.
As the course is equivalent to three A-levels, you will be able to progress to university, an Art Foundation course or into employment.
