Course Overview

During year one you will be introduced to a wide range of techniques and learn new processes throughout the different disciplines within art and design.

Completion of Year One will allow you the chance to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

Course Content

You will be introduced to a wide range of techniques and learn new processes, including observational drawing, black & white darkroom photography, film processing and printing, printmaking, ceramics, screen-printing, CAD & digital exploration, 3D processes (wood, metals, plastics and glass, mould making and laser cutting). Additional workshops will take place throughout the year in specialist areas.

You are expected to study for an additional 10-15 hours outside of timetabled hours.

Entry Requirement

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or a relevant Level 2 qualification.
  • A good portfolio of work to show.

Assessment

Continuous assessment takes place throughout the course through assignments based upon current art and design practice.  All work is produced through coursework and projects and there are no exams.

The course uses practical activities to assess coursework, including peer review, self assessment, presentations, practical activities and exhibitions.

Where does this course lead to

Completion of this year-long course will allow you the chance to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design or into employment.
