This fast-paced 10-week course will immerse you in the fabulous, exciting world of fashion design. Focusing primarily on pattern cutting and manipulating pattern blocks, with some general guidance on garment construction. Beginning with inductions onto our specialist fashion equipment, you will be introduced to the principles of pattern cutting and shown how to develop your ideas into unique patterns and constructed garments. You will learn pattern terminology, modifying bodices, sleeve and skirt blocks, dart manipulation, industry-standard seam finishes and fastenings. The emphasis is on womenswear design and working to standard measurements with commercial pattern blocks. However, handouts will be available for students who wish to draft bespoke blocks to personal measurements outside of class time. Some previous experience in sewing will enable you to make the most of this course. Fees include sewing materials such as threads, calico for toiles, interfacing and pattern cutting paper.Upon completion of this course, you may wish to progress onto Pattern Cutting for Intermediates, which will cover pattern drafting and garment construction in greater depth.
