Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

“I had always wanted to work with cars and BCoT helped me to fulfill my dream."

Joe’s journey with BCoT began when he joined a Year 10/11 programme that allowed him to study a technical subject at the College as well as completing his GCSEs at school.

“I had always wanted to work with cars, so when I heard that I could go to BCoT to do that and still study for my GCSEs, I knew I had to do it!” explained Joe.

In 2012, after completing this programme, Joe enrolled at the College on a full time Level 1 course in Vehicle Maintenance, developing his knowledge and understanding of mechanics further. In the following years, Joe continued to progress with BCoT, studying Level 2 and Level 3 courses in Automotive Studies.

By the time he was studying at Level 3, Joe wanted to take what he had learnt out into industry.  He gained some valuable work experience as a Service Technician in a local garage in Overton, before moving onto a garage that specifically worked on rally and touring cars.

“I had learnt so many new skills and I was naturally good at what I was studying so I couldn’t wait to get out and gain some more work experience in a local garage.  The experience was helpful and taught me more about the industry I wanted a career in.”

Joe believes his time at BCoT put him on the right path for a career he had always wanted.

“I had always wanted to work with cars; I had done since I was small. Going to BCoT has been a great experience. The tutors are fantastic and they invest so much time in you, they are so helpful and I feel they are the reason I am doing so well now.”

Joe hopes to have a long career as a mechanic and has dreams of moving into performance motorsport eventually.

“To anyone who is thinking of studying automotive technology at BCoT I would say go for it. The skills I have learnt both in the automotive trade but also in English and maths have helped me get fantastic work experience opportunities and I am looking forward for what the future brings.”
