Principles of Team Leading - Level 2 NCFE Certificate

Course Overview

This qualification aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding required to successfully lead a team.

The objectives of this qualification are to help you to:

  • develop you knowledge of the principles of team leading;
  • develop you understanding of business;
  • develop knowledge needed to support communication with a range of stakeholders at different levels.

Course Content

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading, you are required to successfully complete the three mandatory units and five of the optional units:

Mandatory Units:

Unit 01 Principles of team leading

This unit provides learners with an understanding of leadership styles in organisations. Learners will develop knowledge of team dynamics and the techniques used to manage the work of teams. Learners will also gain an appreciation of the impact of change management and how a motivated team affects an organisation.

Unit 02 Understand business

This unit equips learners with an understanding of organisational structures and the business environment. Learners will gain knowledge in the principles of business planning and finance within an organisation, as well as business reporting, management responsibilities and accountabilities within an organisation.

Unit 03 Understand how to communicate work-related information

This unit equips learners with an understanding of the principles and techniques of work-related communication both verbally and in writing. Learners will also develop the knowledge of a range of documents required for different types of meetings in a business environment.

Summary of Optional Units:

  • Unit 04 Understand how to manage performance and conflict in the workplace
  • Unit 05 Understand customers
  • Unit 06 Understand how to deliver customer service and resolve problems
  • Unit 07 Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace
  • Unit 08 Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues
  • Unit 09 Understand health and safety procedures in the workplace
  • Unit 10 Understand how to handle information and mail
  • Unit 11 Understand how to develop and deliver a presentation

Entry Requirement

This qualification is designed to support those aged 19+ into employment or further learning, depending on your own needs and interests.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification but you may find it helpful if you’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification.

In order to complete this Distance Learning Course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:

  • Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
  • Will be undertaking your learning within England
  • Are aged 19 or above
  • If you are 19-23 year olds you must have already achieved a level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • If you are 24+ there are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will find it helpful to have a good standard of English and Maths


You will create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

If you successfully achieve this qualification, you could progress to:

  • NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Management
  • NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Management
