Course Overview

Year one: Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting
Year two: Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting

The Level 2 is an ideal starting point if you want a career in accountancy or finance whilst learning good business skills, it offers the knowledge and skills needed to progress to employment or to further study. Units include bookkeeping, costing, professional ethics and using accounting software. Level 3 will build on the Level 2 and expands into final accounts preparation, spreadsheets for accounting and indirect tax (VAT).

Course Content

The Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting covers a range of foundation accounting and finance skills in five mandatory units:

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Using Accounting Software
  • Work Effectively in Finance

In Year Two, the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. It comprises six mandatory units:

  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final Accounts Preparation
  • Management Accounting: Costing
  • Indirect Tax
  • Ethics for Accountants
  • Spreadsheets for Accounting.

Entry Requirement

• GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above



Where does this course lead to

  • Progression to Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting in the second year
  • Completion of both the Level 2 and 3 can lead to employment, an apprenticeship or a Level 4 AAT qualification.
