Course Overview

Completion of all six units in this course aims to enable candidates to obtain a Level 4 Diploma in Accounting qualification with 41-44 QCF Credits through the Association of Accounting Technicians professional qualification.

Course Content

Completion of the required six modules will enable you to achieve the AAT Level 4 Diploma in accounting. This course will help you to gain career progression, a recognised professional qualification and act as a stepping stone to higher level Chartered (ACA) Certified (ACCA) or Management (CIMA) Accounting qualifications

Full AAT Level 4 Qualification requires:

Four Mandatory Modules:

  • Financial statements
  • Budgeting
  • Financial performance
  • Internal controls & accounting systems

Plus 2 units from the following:

  • Personal tax
  • Credit Control
  • Cash Management
  • Business tax
  • External auditing

The Personal Tax module covers:

  • Understand legislation and procedures relating to personal tax
  • Calculate income from all sources and identify taxable and non-taxable items
  • Apply current legislation to calculate the tax payable on income
  • Account for capital gains tax according to current legislation
  • Prepare accurate computations and complete relevant parts of the self-assessment tax returns

Entry Requirement

Applicants will usually have completed the Level 3 Diploma in accounting or other appropriate qualification. Students with appropriate vocational competence or other qualifications will be considered but an interview with the course tutor is required.


This unit will be assessed by way of a computerised examination. Successful completion of all exams will result in the qualification being awarded.

Where does this course lead to

Successful completion of the level 4 Diploma could lead to students being accepted onto the professional Accounting qualifications Chartered (ACA) Certified (ACCA) or Management (CIMA) Accounting.
