The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2 is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. The qualification would suit anyone already working in an accounting or anyone aspiring to do so and achieve a qualification under the AQ2016 syllabus
The purpose of the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is to offer grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or to further study.
This qualification is suitable for young people who have just left school or had a break from education as well as for adults returning to work after a break or for anyone wishing to change or enhance their career prospects.
The Foundation Certificate is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment. This qualification could also help someone who is already working in an entry-level finance role to progress in their career by offering them development and formal recognition of their skills
The course will cover the following Subjects:
Bookkeeping Transactions (BTRN)
Bookkeeping Controls (BKCL)
Elements of Costing (ELCO)
Work Effectively in Finance (WKAF)
Using Accounting Software (UACS)
Acceptance to this level is dependent on good basic Maths and English Qualifications (preferably GCSE Grade “C” and above) or appropriate vocational competence as well as successful completion of a telephone or face to face interview with the Course Director.
Students who are or have been declared bankrupt or have a criminal conviction may not be eligible to join the AAT - please discuss with the course Director before attempting enrollment
Students under 19 will be required to undertake employer engagement throughout the course and may only attempt each assessment twice within 12 months of their qualification start date. Students who take an assessment twice in the 12 month period will have to wait until the following period before they can take it again. In their next 12 months, they may attempt the assessment twice more if needed. This applies to both unit assessments and synoptic assessments
All units are mandatory and completion of 4 individual computerised assessments is required along with a synoptic assessment that will assess the content of 4 specific units. A certificate for the level will be achieved by passing all individual unit assessments as well as the synoptic assessment
Successful completion of the Foundation Certificate in Accounting level 2 could lead to students being accepted onto the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3
