Course Overview

A worldwide examination of data collected between 2011 and 2015 found that 26% of adults studied were unable to use a computer, with a further 29% proficient only in the most basic and familiar of tasks. With a large percentage of job roles requiring competent use and knowledge of information technology, it is more crucial than ever that people improve their computer skills if necessary, both for their own personal and professional advancement and for business purposes.


<p >The course aims to develop your knowledge, understanding and competence in a range of different areas in IT. This course is ideal for anyone who would like to develop their IT skills, particularly those who use IT in their current job role. You must already have basic IT skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), to be able to complete the course successfully. 

<p >Please note: Competency elements will be assessed by viewing data files or screenshots of completed work. You will need access to a computer and the Microsoft Office suite to complete the course.

Course Content

This course is split into five manageable units: 

Unit 1: Using IT to increase productivity 

Unit 2: IT software fundamentals 

Unit 3: IT security for users 

Unit 4: Presentation software 

Unit 5: Spreadsheet software.

Entry Requirement

You must already have basic IT skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), to be able to complete the course successfully. 

In order to complete this Distance Learning Course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:

  • Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
  • Will be undertaking your learning within England
  • Are aged 19 or above
  • If you are 19-23 year olds you must have already achieved a level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • If you are 24+ there are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will find it helpful to have a good standard of English and Maths

Assessment

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
