Emily enrolled on a two-year Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration in September 2017, after studying full-time at BCoT for two years. Emily studies her apprenticeship working within the housing department at nearby Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
"I chose this apprenticeship, as I was interested in the housing department and the work that was undertaken. Working in the housing department has opened my eyes to the world, I work with the homeless and give them their options to try to resolve their situation as well as working with people who are threatened with homelessness. I also work with the housing register, which enables applicants to secure social housing. I attended multiple training sessions, which I thoroughly enjoyed. In the Council, there is the opportunity to go on training sessions with other apprentices from other Council’s, which is great as I have made new friends and met lots of different people doing lots of different roles."
"My assessor from Aspiral Learning was great. She was very kind and she would always answer any questions I had. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her and I could not have completed the NVQ without her."
Upon completing her apprenticeship, whilst Emily is hoping to study a teaching degree and start a career in education, she says her Business Administration course will definitely help her with the work on the degree and has equipped her with "the skills to write essays and juggle working and completing a course at the same time".
"Doing an apprenticeship has given me some amazing skills that I can take with me on to any job in the future, I have been able to learn so much about the world and about things I would not have known before.
Emily's advice to those thinking about studying an apprenticeship?
"I would definitely say to do it! It has given me some incredible skills and knowledge that I can take with me to any jobs or any study that I choose to do. When I applied for this apprenticeship, I did not realise how much I would enjoy it and how much I would gain from it. I am so glad that I made the decision to study an apprenticeship."
