Course Overview

This qualification will give the apprentice the skills, knowledge and understanding required for playworkers at Level 3. They are designed for those working or wishing to work in a senior role with children and young people between 4-16 years of age in a variety of play environments. 

Course Content

The apprenticeship consists of 


Level 3 Diploma in Playwork 
To achieve the Diploma the apprentice will need to complete a total of 65 credits. 46 credits must come from the mandatory units and then a further 19 credits are required from a choice of optional units.

Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
This qualification will: 
  • focus on the study of sport, leisure and recreation and active leisure and learning sector 
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge 
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of technical skills. 

Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English

Entry Requirement

Learners will need to be at least 18 years of age and work in a suitable setting as work based competencies will be assessed. A good standard of education is required with 4 GCSE at level D/4 required.

Assessment

All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. 

Methods of assessment may include

  • direct observations of learner’s practice
  • inference of knowledge from direct observation of practice
  • witness evidence
  • reflection on own practice in real work situations
  • professional discussion with assessor
  • task set by us for knowledge learning outcomes only

Where does this course lead to

On completing this qualification the learner could progress to a level 4 apprenticeship in childcare
