Course Overview

This one-year course covers a mixture of different subjects that reflect popular employment streams in the IT industry; it is also the ideal foundation for you to progress to a Level 3 course. It covers a wide range of subjects including mobile app development, software development, networking, installing and maintaining computer hardware and technology systems.

Course Content

On this course you will cover the following units:

  • Unit 1: The Online World
  • Unit 2: Technology Systems
  • Unit 3: Digital Portfolio
  • Unit 8: Mobile App Development
  • Unit 10: Databases
  • Unit 11: Computer Networks
  • Unit 12: Software Development
  • Unit 14: Installing & Maintaining Computer Hardware

The course will be delivered through a variety of media including individual and group assignments, practical application of classroom based teaching and industry related projects. 

To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme, work experience and enrichment activities.

Entry Requirement

You will need four GCSEs at grade D/3 (preferably to include English and maths) or successful completion of our Future Pathways course.


The course is assessed using a range of methods which include;

  • Online exams
  • Course work
  • Presentations
  • Video logs and podcasts.
  • Two of the core units are externally assessed via an online test.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised route into a Level 3 Computer Science Course. Students should achieve a Merit or Distinction grade at the end of the course to ensure progression to the next level and have gained a grade 4, or higher, in both GCSEs English and Maths.
