Course Overview

The security of technology systems is a growing concern and with a skill shortage of network engineers, computer networks are increasingly at risk of attack. Our Level 3 in Computing and Networking will help you  to gain a wide range of specialist skills that are in demand in the IT Industry today. This course aims to develop your knowledge and practical skills ready for a specialist career in IT or progression to university, with the opportunity to take industry standard qualifications.

The course is delivered over two years. You will initially complete the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in year 1 and then top-up in the second year to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in year 2.

Entry Requirement

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language and Maths and GCSE Computer Science. Progressing learners will need to have achieved BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in ICT at a Merit level or above  and have passed both the Level 2 exams at Merit Level. In addition you will need to have a Level 2 in both Maths and English.


This course is assessed by using a range of methods which include 2 paper examinations and 2 controlled assessments set by Pearson. You will also produce a collection of portfolio coursework, which is set and marked by your unit lecturers, throughout the academic year.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised route into Higher Education. Students may progress to a HNC Certificate.

Employment opportunities range from IT Technician, Network Administrator, Software Design and Development and Database Administrator.
