Course Overview

This course is designed to for students wishing to progress to Level 2 Carpentry.

Course Content

Each certificate route comprises: - core units - occupation-specific units - a synoptic test. Each unit within a particular route is mandatory and covers one group of skills. To gain the award, candidates have to be successful in all units and the phase test. Each unit they achieve will be recorded. They must also pass an independent health and safety and separate knowledge tests.

The certificate provides a progression route towards achieving an NVQ level 2. Units within the certificate route relate to the units within the relevant construction NVQ. Completion of the NVQ will be dependent upon the collection of site evidence which is presented for assessment as the course proceeds.

Entry Requirement

Successful completion of Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, or a knowledge or experience of working in the industry for two or more years.  


Continuous assessment in practical and on-line tests for each unit. Successful assessment will result in a credit being awarded.

The complete award is only issued when all the course content has been successfully completed.

Where does this course lead to

 Employment as a Carpenter in the construction industry, to then gain the knowledge to convert it into an NVQ Level 2 and maybe progress onto the Level 3.
