Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment

Course Overview

This Level 4 course is designed for those already working within the built environment sector. There are specific pathways relevant to your employment or desired specialism. Career development includes working in-house for a large public or commercial company, including local authorities, housing associations and consultancies to specialist contractors or large multi-service companies offering a range of design, build, finance and management services.

Built Environment courses provide an academic platform to enter a number of post HNC courses, such as the BA (Hons) in Architectural Technology at Southampton Solent University.




Course Content

On this course you will:

  • Gain a qualification to compliment your industrial skills and experience
  • Develop technical and management skills required in construction
  • Gain skills to boost your career progression or enable you to study a degree


Modules will  include units such:

  • Science of the Built Environment
  • Construction Management (CM)
  • Building Technology
  • Construction Surveying
  • Management in the Built Environment
  • Construction Technology Project
  • Introduction to Architectural Technology
  • Principles of Business Environment (this unit includes Law and Health and Safety)




 

 

Entry Requirement

You should have five GCSEs grades C/4 or above (including maths and English) or a BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction and Built Environment or a construction related discipline, a relevant Access qualification or other qualifications equivalent to the above. 

Applicants with relevant industry experience will also be considered. They will be invited to an interview with the course leader and may be asked to undertake a short piece of written work.

Assessment

Your progress will be assessed through assignments, presentations, time controlled assessment and  projects.

There is no final exam.

Where does this course lead to

Upon completing the course students will be able to go on to employment in many different branches of industry, including management or technician roles.
