Level 3 Apprenticeship in Children and Young People's Workforce (Early Years Educator)


Course Overview

This qualification has been developed for people working in the children and young people’s area. It develops the wide-ranging knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth up to 19 years. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas. On completion learners will be able to work unsupervised with children and young people

The qualification is appropriate for a nursery manager, supervisor, team leader supervising others in the early years sector or in a residential childcare setting

Course Content

You will learn a range of childcare and educational subjects essential for working in early years and primary education whilst gaining an understanding of the how’s and why’s of their development.

This apprenticeship consists of

  • Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Educator or Level 3 diploma in Residential Childcare
  • L2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Children & Young Person's Settings
  • Functional Skills level 2 maths
  • Functional Skills level 2 English
  • Functional Skills level 2 ICT

Entry Requirement

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or Level 2 Functional Skills or above.
  • You will need to be employed, or find employment in a relevant role.
  • Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification.


There are various methods available that can be tailored to suit your needs, such as:

  • Observation
  • Examination of case history
  • Product evidence
  • Witness testimony
  • Questioning

All teaching, learning and assessment for the qualification will take place in the workplace, except you may be required to attend Maths, English and ICT classes at the college.

Where does this course lead to

This course could lead to promotion to a deputy manager role and advancement to a level 4 qualification - Children, Young People & Family Practitioner.
