Course Overview

This qualification is for candidates who need to know more about the safety precautions to be taken when working on or near a high voltage hybrid vehicle. Therefore, this applies not just to automotive technicians but also, for example, emergency services staff.

As a result of learning, Level 2 candidates will have the essential knowledge about:

• hybrid system components and operation

• how to work safely on hybrid and related vehicle systems

• how to work safely around electric vehicles.

Course Content

This qualification is for anyone interested in developing their career in the motor industry, to maintain and repair different types of hybrid/electric vehicles. To access this qualification you should be Level 2 qualified in Automotive already. This qualification is designed to enable you to understand, safely power down and correctly reinstate the high voltage system on a Hybrid or Electric vehicle.

After taking this qualification Level 3 and a Level 4 qualifications are available.

Entry Requirement

None but a Level 2 in Automotive studies is desirable.



Online/written paper/practical assessment.

They allow candidates to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications: 

• Level 3 Award in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Repair and Replacement.
