Course Overview

This course will give you a Level 2 qualification in engineering, allowing you to progress to an apprenticeship, employment or a Level 3 programme. You will learn the knowledge and hand skill needed to develop or build on a successful career in engineering and advanced manufacturing and develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies.

Course Content

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques.
  • Preparing and using semi-automatic MIG, MAG and flux core arc welding equipment

During the course learners will do a series of practical based activities and create a portfolio of evidence, they will be observed and assessed throughout the year.


Entry Requirement

You will need four GCSEs at grade D/3 (preferably to include English, maths and a science) or successful completion of our Future Pathways course.


The course is continuously assessed by assignments and the generation of a portfolio of evidence.

Where does this course lead to

This course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course or employment, including an Apprenticeship.
