Level 2 Apprenticeship in Engineering


Course Overview

This one-year course will provide you with the foundation level skills to progress into your chosen engineering pathway, either mechanical, electrical/electronic, or maintenance. This is a day-release course combined with on the job training so you will combine both theory and practical skills. 

Apprentices will spend one day a week at college studying both the theory and practical skills relevant to your Apprenticeship role.  Successful completion would allow you to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.

As an employer, your apprentice will benefit from excellent teaching and learning facilities and an industry experienced and qualified staff team. The technical, taught components of the course will enable your apprentice to develop in depth knowledge of relevant core units. The practical aspect of the course will help to develop your apprentice's application of knowledge and skills in your workplace. This is supported by expert assessors who will work with you to ensure the development of skills and knowledge is tailored to meet the requirements of your business.

Course Content

This apprenticeship covers a range of practical skills and underpinning knowledge and includes the following components:

1. Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations

2. Level 2 Edexcel Diploma in Engineering

3. Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)

4. Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

5. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Entry Requirement

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above preferably to include Maths, English and a Science. Learners must be employed in the Engineering sector.


The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations is assessed through practical training and assessment tasks. The Level 2 Edexcel Diploma in Engineering is assessed through the completion of college assignments.
