Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering


Course Overview

This apprenticeship is designed for your apprentices seeking to become competent at Level 3 in the engineering pathway relevant to your business. The apprenticeship develops the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in one of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, electronic or maintenance.

This advanced apprenticeship can be tailored to suit your chosen engineering pathway – mechanical; electrical/electronic; or maintenance. This is a day-release course combined with on the job training with your employer. You will work towards achieving the Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering that will provide you with both the theory knowledge and practical skills you need, alongside other qualifications.

As an apprentice, you will benefit from excellent teaching and learning facilities and an industry experienced and qualified teaching staff. The technical, taught components of the course will enable your apprentice to develop in depth knowledge of relevant core units. The practical aspect of the course will help to develop your apprentice's application of knowledge and skills in your workplace. This is supported by expert assessors who will work with you to ensure the development of skills and knowledge is tailored to meet the requirements of your business.

Course Content

This apprenticeship programme covers a range of practical skills and underpinning knowledge and includes the following components:

  • Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering
  • Level 3 Edexcel Diploma in Engineering (in chosen pathway)
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (Level 2)
  • Employment Rights an Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Entry Requirement

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, preferably to include English, maths and a science, or completion of our Future Pathways course.
  • You will need to be employed, or find employment, in the engineering sector.


The Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma is assessed by the candidate completing a portfolio of evidence gathered from workplace activities. The Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering is assessed through the completion of college assignments.
