Intended for those already in the Engineering Industry, this is a professional qualification for learners who wish to enhance their career prospects. A part time day release course, it combines work and study.
It will entail a full day at college to complete the HND course, as well as two units that are delivered as distance learning, thus combining work and study.
Learners gain knowledge and experience by analysing and working principles applicable to current technologies. The learner will develop knowledge and undertake a range of hands on projects, mixed with academic theory. During the course we will support development of key skills, including maths, problem solving, decision making, IT and communication.
This course will be delivered on a Thursday. Mature students are welcome.
On this course the subjects covered include; -
Engineering Management, Lean Manufacturing, Utilisation of electrical Power, Sustainability, Industrial Services and Engineering Project
The Engineering Project gives you an opportunity to design and implement a solution to an engineering problem that is relevant to your company.
The college offers a wide range of resources and facilities including e-learning tools, suitable equipped place to work, IT facilities and other learning resources that will be appropriate for the nature of the work you will be required to undertake.

You must have completed a HNC course in Engineering. You will be required to provide a copy of your HNC certificate or proof that you have completed an HNC to the course tutor.
Candidates will be invited to attend an interview with a member of the faculty staff either in person or by phone.
If you have an older HNC then it will need to be cross mapped against the HND specifications to ensure the compatibility of the award. You may have to complete some additional work for a full award.
You will be assessed by producing evidence that meets the outcomes of each unit usually through the form of assessments.
The assessment is continuous. It includes projects and presentations together with any work-related projects that may be required. It is likely that the evidence provided will include and involve real work-based projects from your employer. Class work will include group work, discussions and formative assessments.
Upon successful completion of this course learners
will be able to progress onto a BSc or possibly MSc at
The qualification is recognised by
the Professional bodies towards registration as a Professional Engineer. The
college is recognised with the IET and IMECH and will be able to
help with an application for these professional bodies.
