3D Computer Aided Design - Level 3 C&G Award

Part Time

Course Overview

This course covers the requirements of City and Guilds Level 7689-06 (3D CAD).

As a registered BCoT student, you will have free access to AutoCAD student.

Course Content

The course will cover the following subjects:

  • Set up drawing environment for 3D modelling
  • Set up system to control display of 3D objects
  • Set up multi view windows to aid construction/printing
  • Create templates for 3D environment
  • Create user coordinates and plans in 3D space
  • Construction of 3D surfaced wire frames
  • Construction of 3D solid models
  • Manipulate and modify 3D models
  • Plot and export to printer/other operating systems (CAM etc)

Entry Requirement

There are no formal entry requirements, but it is expected that you will have achieved a Level 2 or 3 CAD qualification or have experience in working at a high standard of 2D CAD.


You will need to complete two practical drawing assignments and one online multiple choice test.

Where does this course lead to

Parametric Modelling, Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) courses.
