Course Overview

This work-based qualification is aimed at learners who are working in a management and advanced practice role in a health and social care workplace.

The qualification is tailored to suit the learner and employer by choosing the most relevant optional units, in addition to the mandatory required units which gives learners opportunity to:

  • Develop and demonstrate technical and wider sector-related knowledge to underpin competence in the learners job role
  • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning through the development of personal, learning and thinking skills 
  • Have existing skills recognised
  • Achieve a nationally recognised Level 5  qualification.

Course Content

Through a variety of mandatory and optional units, which are tailored to your job role, you will work towards completing the qualification with the support of your assessor who will visit you on a regular basis.

Mandatory units include:

  • Use and Develop Systems that Promote Communication
  • Promote Professional Development
  • Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Develop Health and Safety and Risk Management Policies, Procedures and Practices in Health and Social Care
  • Work in Partnership in Health and Social Care
  • Undertake a Research Project within Services for Health and Social Care

Entry Requirement

You should be employed in a senior role in a health and social care setting. and have achieved a good standard of English and Maths at functional skills level 2 or above.


Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be assigned and supported by an assessor who will visit you in the workplace on a regular basis. They will complete assessment plans and review your work with you to keep you on target.

They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as observation, professional discussion, written assignments and witness statements

This course provides you with the skills and knowledge to support you to lead a Health and Social Care service.

On successful completion of the diploma you could choose to progress on to a relevant degree in Health & Social Care
