Access to Higher Education in Sports Science

Full Time

Course Overview

This course has been designed specifically for mature students who do not have the relevant qualifications for entry to higher education.

Attendance at BCoT is essential our days a week between 9.30 and 3.30pm

Learners are assigned a personal tutor who will support learning and development.

Good time-management skills are necessary as assessment of the course is on an on-going basis.

The curriculum is structured so that core units are delivered together with the cohorts of the other Access courses at BCoT. The specialist sports science units are delivered to the sports science students separately. 

There are weekly tutorials where one to ones take place and you set your own targets for the development of specific skills and knowledge, including completion of the UCAS process. All resources, assignments are available on the Google Classrooms for your use and specific resources for eLearning sessions are updated weekly

  • Introduction to Sports Psychology
  • Psychology of Exercise & Health
  • Psychology of Human Movement
  • Functional Anatomy for Sport & Exercise
  • Physiology of Sport & Exercise
  • Concepts & Components of Health & Fitness
  • Sports Injuries
  • Reflective Practice of Health, Sport & Wellbeing
  • Practical Sport Coaching

Entry Requirement

Candidates should have a minimum of GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. You will also be invited for an advice and guidance interview with the tutor.If you do not meet the entry requirement we would advise you to consider enrolling on our Pre-Access to Higher Education course and the IGCSE English Language.


This course is assessed in a variety of ways including presentations, discussions, tests, projects, practical work, problem solving exercises, essays, scientific reports, diagrams. There are no exams for this course.    

Where does this course lead to

This course would be suitable progression to the HNC Sport at BCoT. It would be suitable for those who want to go on to University to study a sports science or related degree programme.
