Course Overview
This qualification will enable the apprentice to develop the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to become a competent healthcare worker providing high quality and compassionate care to individuals. The apprentice should be working in a healthcare environment which provides patient care including hospitals, community settings, or nursing homes as part of a team.
On completion the apprentice will be a competent and job-ready Healthcare Support Worker.
Course Content
To successfully achieve this qualification, the apprentice will need to achieve:
- The healthcare support worker standard
- The Level 2 Diploma in Care may also be undertaken as part of this course to assist in building up an evidence portfolio for the end point assessment
- Math's and English Functional skills at Level 1 (unless exempt if have equivalent)
- Take the exam for Math's and English Functional skills at level 2
- Achieve the Care Certificate
- Successfully achieve a grade in the end point assessment
Entry Requirement
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably to include English, maths and science, or completion of our Future Pathways course.
- You will need to be employed, or find employment, in a relevant role.
Assessment
Once on the apprenticeship, a suitably qualified assessor will be assigned that will visit the workplace regularly. Assessment plans will be completed and 12 weekly reviews to keep the apprentice on target. They will support with collection of the required evidence needed for the qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and training and support to complete written assignments.
The end point assessment consists of:
- A multiple choice test
- An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace
- An evidence portfolio completed by the apprentice with an interview
Where does this course lead to
This apprenticeship provides the apprentice with the skills and knowledge to support their colleagues in the healthcare sector and can enables them to progress in their chosen career as a healthcare worker.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, they could choose to progress on to a related higher level qualification, such as the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard.
