Health and Social Care

Senior Healthcare Support Worker Standards

Apprenticeship

Course Overview

This Apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge needed to support doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients. You are required to complete the Care Certificate prior to commencement of this Apprenticeship.

Clinical healthcare support workers work in a variety of healthcare settings, depending upon their job role, including a:

- Specific hospital department e.g. stroke care, gastroenterology or oncology
- Community clinic or health centre
- Patients' homes
- Care homes
- GP clinic

This Apprenticeship expects you to have additional responsibilities such as supervising junior teams members, taking physiological measurements and carrying out more complex clinical procedures e.g. wound care.  It is ideal if you are working in healthcare and already have good technical skills and knowledge. You should be working with minimal supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring that work meets the required standard.
