Students GCSE success

BCoT's GCSE results significantly outperform the national averages in both English and Mathematics.

BCoT's students achieved a pass rate for GCSE English 0.7% above the national average of 20.9%, demonstrating the college's commitment to foundational literacy skills. The success in mathematics was even more pronounced, with a pass rate of 9.6% above the national average of 17.1%.

The college is particularly proud of the increase in high-achieving students. This year, 37 students achieved a grade 5 or above in English, a significant rise from 27 students last year. In Mathematics, the progress was even more impressive, with 33 students securing a grade 5 or above, a substantial increase from 20 students in the previous year.

Among the many success stories are those of remarkable resilience and dedication. Ruby, who was homeschooled due to serious health issues, sat her first-ever GCSE exams with BCoT and achieved a brilliant Grade 5 in both English and Maths. She progressed to her GCSEs after first studying Functional Skills English and Maths alongside her hairdressing course. "We are delighted with Ruby's results," said her teacher. "Ruby arrived at BCoT with no qualifications, and her success is a testament to her hard work and the support she has received." Ruby will now progress on to study Hairdressing at the college.

Similarly, Grace, who came to the UK from Nigeria where she was taught English in a very different way, passed her English GCSE with a Grade 4. She credits her success to the support she received at BCoT, stating, "I was really encouraged and if I didn't understand something I was given the support I needed." In fact, her learning journey has ignited a passion for English literature, something she hopes to study in the future.

"We are incredibly proud of our students' hard work and dedication," said Anthony Bravo OBE, Principal of BCoT. "These results are a testament to their resilience and the unwavering support of our dedicated staff. The significant increase in high-grade achievements, particularly in maths, highlights the effectiveness of our teaching methods and the targeted support we provide to help every student succeed. These results will open up fantastic opportunities for our students' future careers and further study."

BCoT's success on GCSE Results Day reinforces its position as a leading provider of further education in the region, equipping students with the essential skills and qualifications needed for their next steps, whether that be higher-level courses, apprenticeships, or employment.
