'AI Essentials'

The College is proud to announce an innovative partnership with Pearson to introduce 'AI Essentials,' a short course designed to give students a foundational understanding of Artificial Intelligence. Powered by ActiveHub, this new course is a "turnkey solution" developed to support the smarter, safer use of AI in the classroom and beyond.

The 'AI Essentials' course provides a comprehensive look at both the opportunities and risks associated with AI, preparing students to navigate the complexities of modern technology.

"We're all about getting students ready for what's next. The AI Essentials course isn't just another course; it's about giving educators and learners the essential skills needed in education right now," said Anthony Bravo OBE, Principal of Basingstoke College of Technology. "You'll gain a solid grasp of AI and learn how to use it responsibly and effectively. We've already seen over 1,100 learners successfully complete it, and with our forward-thinking approach, we're making sure all staff get the support they need to master these vital tools. This course will directly enhance your practical skills and ensure you're fully prepared to meet the increasing demand for AI use in education.”

The positive impact of the course is already being felt on campus. "The AI Essentials course has been a huge hit with our students," said Richard Harris, Digital & Information Technology Lecturer. "It was fantastic to see them not just getting excited about the topic, but really starting to think critically about the content they consume every day. It’s given them up-to-date, practical skills that will be vital for their future."

The course, which takes only 60-90 minutes to complete, is available on a 12-month subscription site licence, allowing it to be allocated to any number of students at the college within that timeframe. 'AI Essentials' is available now, with the first teach scheduled for September 2025.
