Course Introduction

The IMI Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Automotive Care (Diploma) has been developed to prepare Learners to enter the world of work in the automotive sector, which has been developed with the assistance of industry employers for the automotive sector.

The qualification is suitable for those individuals who want to gain the knowledge, and skills associated with vehicle maintenance and repair industries, but not limited to:

Bus and coach
Construction plant
Land-based engineering
Light or heavy goods vehicle
Motorcycle

Course Content

There are 12 Mandatory Unit Groups of which there is a practical and a knowledge element.

Health, Safety, Legislation and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
Workplace Procedures and Support for Job Roles in the Automotive Work Environment
Customer Service Skills and Sales in the Automotive Sector
Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment
Routine Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
Engine Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling System Components
Engine Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust System Components
Vehicle Battery, Charging and Lighting Systems
Vehicle Chassis Components (Brakes, Steering, Suspension)
Vehicle Air Conditioning Systems
Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Operation, Hazard Awareness and Safety Precautions
Knowledge of Motor Vehicle Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Components

Entry Requirement

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths or successful completion of Level 1

Assessment

Online Exams & Practical Assessment.

Where does this course lead to

Successful completion of this course would allow you to progress to Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma or a related apprenticeship/employment.
