Course Overview
This one-year course will give you the skills needed to maintain and repair light vehicles working for a large manufacturer, main dealer or local garage.
During this two-year technical IMI qualification, you will cover the technical needs of today's automotive repair industry, including the diagnosis of complex system faults, and providing essential knowledge for service technicians working in the motor vehicle industry.
Course Content
During the course you will study units including vehicle inspection, engine systems, chassis systems, auxiliary systems and electrical faults. This course covers a wide range of subjects including:
- Health and Safety, ready for industry expectations.
- Working with others.
- Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment.
- Diagnosing and Rectifying Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
- Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Engine Faults.
- Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System Faults
- Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults
- Vehicle inspection and routine servicing.
Entry Requirement
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths.
- Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification.
Assessment
The course is continuously assessed by practical assessments, written assignments and online tests.
