Year one: Level 3 BTEC Certificate
Year two: Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma

This two-year advanced level course will prepare you for a range of careers in engineering or further study at university.You will cover areas including maths and communications for technicians, workshop practices, computer aided design (CAD), engineering drawing, electrical and electronic principles, and computer aided manufacturing.

Course Content

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Mathematics for technicians
  • Communications for technicians
  • Engineering workshop practices
  • Electronic Fault finding.
  • Computer aided design
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Computer aided manufacture
  • Engineering project.

Entry Requirement

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, maths and preferable science, or a relevant Level 2 qualification.
  • Other Level 3 pathways are available for students requiring to re-sit either GCSE English or maths.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.

Where does this course lead to

Completion of the Level 3 Certificate and Extended Diploma in Year Two will allow you to progress to a Higher National Diploma, degree course, or advanced apprenticeship. Employment opportunities range from telecommunications, electronic and mechanical engineering, design, sales, quality control, maintenance, manufacturing, or production engineering.
